Credentialing / Credentialing Status Check

How long does insurance credentialing or enrollment take?

These examples apply only when your application and starting dates meet the insurance company's conditions. We have not inspected your insurance company records.

What timelines do Aetna and UnitedHealthcare publish?

These examples are not guaranteed completion dates. We need the right starting date and matching conditions before making a comparison. We suggest following up if you've heard nothing after 14 calendar days. This is our suggestion, not an insurance company deadline.

UnitedHealthcare medical

Credentialing: Generally up to 45 calendar days or more; response times and complete information affect the process. Start only when the completed application and all required information are acknowledged. Submission alone does not start this reference clock. Source; read 24 October 2026.

Claims-system setup: Allow up to 60 days once credentialing is approved and a signed contract is received. Start at the later of credentialing approval and insurance company receipt of the signed contract. Both dates must be known. Source; read 24 October 2026.

Aetna

Credentialing: The illustrative schedule places credentialing at days 60 to 90 after the participation request. Application submitted must be the participation-request date for this same application round. This compares with the published schedule, not a contractual deadline. Source; read 24 October 2026.

Contracting: The illustrative final-contracting stage is days 90 to 120, including the insurance company's signature and the participation effective-date system record. Use the participation-request date for the same application round. Do not restart a guessed 30-day clock from approval. Source; read 24 October 2026.

Other or not sure

We do not have a published timeline for this insurance company. We do not borrow another insurance company's timeline or guess how long it will take.

Where these timelines come from

These links explain the insurance company timelines used in the check. Aetna and UnitedHealthcare examples do not apply to every plan. We use the answers you give us; we have not inspected your insurance company records. The linked timing sources were checked on 24 October 2026.

Other insurance companies

The form also names Cigna / Evernorth, Humana, Anthem, other Blue Cross Blue Shield companies, Kaiser Permanente, Molina, Ambetter, Wellcare and Optum Behavioral Health. For these choices, your result uses your answers and dates to suggest a question. It does not borrow Aetna's or UnitedHealthcare's timing.

Cigna Healthcare medical
Cigna's medical credentialing page says the process typically takes 45 to 60 days after it receives the application packet. It separately describes claims-system and directory updates, typically within 10 business days after approval. This is medical-network guidance, not a deadline for every Evernorth behavioral-health or facility application. We use these ranges as background only. They do not mark an application as late.
Humana
Start with Humana's network guidance for your provider type and location. The general page does not give one medical-network turnaround that we can safely apply to every application.
Anthem and other Blue Cross Blue Shield companies
Use the actual state plan and product. For example, BCBS Illinois separates professional, facility and Medicaid routes and offers an application status checker. That is not a national Blue Cross timeline.
Kaiser Permanente
Use the regional provider team. Kaiser's Georgia provider guidance describes its own credentialing process; do not apply another region's process or timing to your application.
Molina Healthcare
Molina's network entry page asks you to choose your state first.
Ambetter
Ambetter's Arkansas credentialing page has state-specific routes and forms. Use the Ambetter plan serving your state.
Wellcare
Wellcare's network inquiry is a request for consideration, not the credentialing application itself. Check which step your practice has actually completed before counting a wait.
Optum Behavioral Health
Provider Express distinguishes individual credentialing from other provider routes and provides an initial-status check. UnitedHealthcare medical timelines are not applied to this choice.

Medicare and Medicaid use separate enrollment routes

The form's contract and network-setup steps are for health-plan applications. They are not a complete Original Medicare or state Medicaid enrollment checker. For a Medicare Advantage or Medicaid managed-care plan, choose the company handling that separate health-plan application.

Original Medicare

CMS directs providers to PECOS and their Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC). The contractor depends on where you practice; provider type, application type and a site visit can affect processing.

For example, Noridian's JE Part B guidance lists 15 to 50 calendar days for PECOS without a site visit and 50 to 85 with one; paper applications take 30 to 65 days without a site visit and 65 to 100 days with one. These are that contractor's published ranges for that program, not a promise or a national deadline. Check the current application status and instructions with your own MAC.

State Medicaid enrollment

There is no single nationwide processing time used by this tool. The state's enrollment process and a health plan's credentialing or contracting process may be separate. For example, BCBS Illinois directs applicable Medicaid providers through the Illinois provider-enrollment portal. Check the provider-enrollment office for the state and provider type involved.

For either program, a useful first question is: "Did you receive our provider enrollment application, and is it complete? If anything is missing, what do you need and where can we check its status?" Do not send names, IDs or enrollment documents through this form.
